The Best Italian and Pizza in Dallas, Texas

The Egyptian is a real piece of Dallas history. In 1946, our great grandparents Carlo “Papa” and Antonia Campisi purchased a bar at the corner of Knox and McKinney called the Idle Hour. In the small kitchen in the back, Papa created Texas’ first pizza, and in the process, Texas’ first pizzeria.

We moved to Mockingbird Lane in 1950 to take over ownership of the previous “Egyptian Lounge” and open the first ever Campisi’s Restaurant. Back then, there was not enough money to buy an entirely new sign, so we swapped out “lounge” for “restaurant”. The iconic neon sign has been a staple of the east Dallas area ever since.
