Nestled in the heart of Dallas, TX, The Egyptian Restaurant stands as a beacon of culinary history. Established in 1946 by our great-grandparents, Carlo “Papa” and Antonia Campisi, this landmark location—being the original Campisi’s Restaurant—began its journey as the Idle Hour bar at the corner of Knox and McKinney. Behind its humble doors, Papa Campisi crafted Texas’ first pizza, giving birth to not only Texas’ first pizzeria, but also a legacy that would expand far beyond its initial walls.
In 1950, our family’s vision grew, and we relocated to Mockingbird Lane, taking over the former “Egyptian Lounge.” With resources tight and the spirit of innovation guiding us, we transformed it into the first-ever Campisi’s Restaurant. The original neon sign with “lounge” famously replaced by “restaurant,” continues to shine brightly at The Egyptian Restaurant in Dallas, TX, serving as a historic beacon and reminding all who visit of the rich traditions and authentic Italian cuisine that Campisi’s brings to the table.
