Employee Spotlight: Jimmy Evans

COMMUNITY » Just For Fun | June 29th, 2018

For this employee spotlight, we spoke with Jimmy Evans about his experience at Campisi’s. He has been working at the Campisi’s Mockingbird location for almost 40 years now and has held a variety of positions. “I’ve basically worked every position from behind the bar, in the kitchen, to being a General Manager,” Jimmy said. “You could say I graduated from Campisi’s University.”

Jimmy has known the Campisi family for decades and said that he “pretty much grew up in their household”. They needed help around the restaurant and Jimmy was more than willing to work for them. His favorite position is being a General Manager because he is able to walk around and get to know the customers. He loves being able to socialize and meet everyone that walks in the door.

It’s very important to him that the customers leave with a smile on their face. “If my customers leave happy, then I’m happy.” Jimmy describes himself as a people person and the customers are the reason why he loves his job.  The chance to hear people’s stories and see Campisi’s grow has been fun to watch throughout the years.

Jimmy considers himself a “pasta meatball freak” and spaghetti and meatballs is his all-time favorite meal. Growing up it was the typical meal for Sunday dinner with his family. Now, he has it at least twice a month, and would suggest that anyone who comes into Campisi’s try this dish out.

In his spare time, he enjoys exploring Texas and working on projects around the house. He feels the need to accomplish things otherwise it’s a wasted day. He spends most of his time at The Egyptian (aka the Original Campisi’s at Mockingbird) and considers working there “a way of life. I’ve been doing it for so long, I wouldn’t know what to do with my life otherwise.”

One thing that he wishes people would know about Campisi’s is that they have “a heck of a history.” You can ask anyone who works there the story behind any one of the many pictures on the walls, and they can all tell you the history. Every person tells the stories the same and there’s so many interesting stories to be told. Stop by our Mockingbird location today and ask Jimmy about one of the pictures on the wall, you won’t regret it.
